This Situation Cannot Be Excluded: Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs on Violence Against Citizens

There is a disciplinary proceeding underway regarding the issue, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan stated during a press conference with journalists in the National Assembly, responding to the incident of a red beret officer beating a citizen.

"As for the incident with the head of the Dilijan police, there is a disciplinary proceeding, and the police themselves have suspended the powers of that officer. Any form of violence is, of course, unacceptable," the deputy minister stated.

When asked why police officers resolve issues in a 'male-dominated' manner rather than taking a citizen to a police station, the Deputy Minister emphasized: "This situation cannot be excluded, because we are dealing with a large service and there may be unique cases that arise. What's important is the state’s response in these instances, and in both cases, a service investigation has been conducted."
