Dilijan Criminal Chief Beat Minor Employee for Different Reasons, Lawyer Claims

The chief of the Dilijan criminal department, Arsen Ghaitemazyan, who assaulted the waiter A. A. at the "Haghartsin" restaurant and hotel complex, was arrested solely due to public outcry, and at the time of the incident, he was not under the influence of alcohol, stated his lawyer Vrej Nerkararyan in an interview with Aravot.am.

When asked if Ghaitemazyan underwent a sobriety check, the lawyer replied that he had not, asserting that Ghaitemazyan insists he was not under the influence of alcohol. “He did not say that he was under the influence of alcohol,” the lawyer noted.

In response to the question of what triggered Ghaitemazyan to beat the minor employee, the lawyer said: “It was not at all what is being reported in the newspapers. If a rational person looks and reads, it is impossible to believe that a person would want hotel money and violently beat someone; there must be some serious mental imbalance. What does it mean for a person to want hotel money and to beat them? While this is how it’s being spread, a person who reads rationally will understand that such a thing cannot possibly happen; it is simply impossible. How can an adequate person do such a thing? There are other reasons at play that I cannot disclose because I do not have his permission. There were certain personal issues that led to these matters.”

The lawyer noted that both he and his client believe that a person should be held accountable in proportion to their actions. “One cannot attempt to deprive someone of their freedom through public pressure, turning a minor into an angel and justifying them in the public domain.”
