Landslide Damages Railway Line of South Caucasus Railway, Train Service from Yerevan to Tbilisi Canceled
On the night of June 6-7, a landslide caused by heavy rainfall damaged the railway line of the South Caucasus Railway Company in the Alaverdi-Akhtala section. Approximately 100 meters of the railway track were covered with soil and flooded with water streams.
The emergency incident has disrupted train services towards Georgia. The passenger train from Yerevan to Tbilisi has been canceled, and the railway company has promptly organized the transportation of around 100 passengers by motor transport. The company is requesting the passengers' understanding for the inconvenience caused.
Since the night and continuing into today, the forces of the railway company, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and local self-government are working to eliminate the consequences of the emergency situation; however, ongoing water and soil flow is hindering their efforts.
