VIDEO: Armenia's Position is Very Clear, I Believe They Have Taken It into Account – Secretary of the Security Council
There is an important point regarding unblocking that I believe is now clear to all involved partners, which is that the complete control of border services will be under the authority of the Armenian side. This was stated by the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, during an interview with 'News'.
"Unblocking in the context of the RA means that all border services are carried out by the services of the RA. In this regard, Armenia's position is very clear, I believe it has been taken into account, and we hope that other partners will also move forward based on this principle," Grigoryan noted.
The Secretary of the Security Council emphasized that Armenia’s approaches regarding the term 'corridor' have not changed since 2020, and there are three main principles which Armenia follows regarding unblocking: sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity. "Unblocking can occur within the framework of these principles," Grigoryan said.
According to him, Armenia has faced various forms of pressure for a long time to find solutions outside of these principles. "Currently, it has become more steadfast that Armenia will not take that step. Perhaps there was hope in the past. I can say that one of the reasons for the September war was precisely that, because there were attempts to exert pressure on Armenia even through military means to change its positions, but Armenia is steadfast on these issues," he stated.
Commenting on the statement made by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk regarding the parties being close to restoring railway communication, Grigoryan said the following: "The primary issue is not the construction of the railway but rather the issue of reaching a political agreement. Political agreements must also be within the framework of these three principles."
Speaking about the Lachin corridor, he noted that its complete closure raises significant concerns. "We see that the November 9th statement regarding the Lachin corridor is being violated in every way, and that is also the reason why we want to invite an international presence to the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh, to neutralize the risk of ethnic cleansing that currently exists. We believe that the presence of the international community can neutralize that threat," said the Secretary of the Security Council.
