Gunshots in Gegharkunik Region: Suspect and Victim are Blood Relatives

On June 3, a shooting incident occurred in the Gegharkunik region. At around 11:30 PM, the Martuni medical center notified the Martuni division of the Armenian Police that a citizen with a gunshot wound had been admitted. This was reported by shamshyan.com.

Doctors informed the law enforcement officials that the victim was in surgery and unable to provide an explanation of the incident. While the medics fought for the victim's life, police and investigators established that the injured individual was 44-year-old Karen Poghosyan, a resident of Geghovit village in the Gegharkunik region, who sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

Furthermore, investigators clarified that on the same day at around 10:30 PM, a dispute had erupted between the injured Karen Poghosyan and 41-year-old Askhanaz Poghosyan, also a resident of the same village, in the area of a furniture production workshop owned by “Le Mark” LLC in Geghovit, where Askhanaz shot at Karen with a handmade firearm and then fled the scene.

Officers from the Gegharkunik Regional Police, the Martuni division of the Police, and the Patrol Service of Gegharkunik Region, based on operational data, determined the probable whereabouts of the shooter, found and apprehended him, and subsequently transferred him to the Martuni division of the Police, where he was presented to the investigation committee of the Gegharkunik region, after which he was arrested per the investigator's decision.

According to the news outlet, a criminal case has been initiated in the Martuni investigation division on the grounds of attempted murder. Sources indicate that the wounded individual is known in Martuni as “Prushi Karen,” who had been engaged in business in Ukraine for many years and returned to his birthplace when the war in Ukraine started. The suspect and the victim are grandchildren of brothers.

Police and patrol officers also discovered a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle, which also contained traces of blood, and according to reports, the vehicle belongs to the victim, who was transported to the hospital in that car.
