A Citizen in Alaverdi Falls Under a Freight Train and Dies on the Spot
In the Lori province of Armenia, a 31-year-old citizen fell under a freight train and died at the scene. This information was reported by shamshyan.com.
Specifically, on June 3, around 10:30 PM, operational information was received by the Lori provincial police that a train had hit a man in the administrative territory of Tumanyan, resulting in his death on the spot.
“Police and investigators found that the driver of the freight train number 3411, Zaven V., aged 61, noticed a citizen crossing the railway tracks at the 2609 km mark approximately at 10:25 PM in the vicinity of the Sanahin-Alaverdi section, near the 'Haypetshin' bus stop on Tumanyan Street in Alaverdi. He honked the train's horn; however, the individual failed to clear the tracks in time and was struck by the train, resulting in his immediate death,” the website reports.
Authorities later determined that the deceased was 31-year-old Zhora P. from Alaverdi. A criminal case has been initiated in the Tumanyan investigative department regarding the incident.
It is worth noting that last year, a 34-year-old woman fell under a train at the same location and died.
Earlier, the South Caucasus Railways company stated that the number of accidents in railway infrastructure had increased in 2023, though no numerical data was provided. In 2022, there were 12 recorded incidents on the railway and 48 cases of livestock being struck. The company warned that the frequency, speed, and weight of trains had significantly increased over the past 15 years. Currently, the speed of certain passenger trains during suburban traffic reaches 100 km/h, while freight trains can carry loads of up to 4500 tons, resulting in a braking distance of approximately 500 meters.
