We Should Build Quality Roads Once, Not Patch Holes for 12 Months a Year: Mesrop Arakelyan
The recent statement made by the Yerevan Municipality fully reveals the quality of governance and work, or rather the lack thereof. This was stated by Mesrop Arakelyan, co-founder of the 'Living Land' party.
“It is announced as a significant achievement that they will be engaged in pothole repairs for 12 months a year. In other words, it indicates that the paving works will continue to be carried out poorly, but they will be repairing potholes all year long. Not to mention that driving in Yerevan has turned into a computer game, and every intersection needs to install a 'pothole patrol' system.
As a result, today the condition of Yerevan's roads is the worst in all of Armenia, and nearly 4 billion AMD is allocated from Yerevan's budget annually for asphalt repair, effectively resulting in the inefficient waste of public funds.
Generally, when you study the budgets of European cities, you won't find lines for asphalt repairs and similar expenses. For effective city management and the efficient use of public resources, it is necessary to build quality roads once, which will not need repairs for decades, rather than patching holes for 12 or 24 months a year,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
