VIDEO: The Flood Situation at Upper Lars Has Not Affected Transport Movement, Attaché Reports

The flood situation affecting two sections of the highway from the Russian side at the "Upper Lars" checkpoint has not impacted traffic across the border. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by Vahan Hakobyan, the customs attaché at the Armenian Embassy in Russia.

Previously, reports indicated that the water level of the Terek River near the "Upper Lars" checkpoint had reached up to 130 cm, inundating sections 20 and 22 of the Vladikavkaz-lower Lars-Georgia federal highway. The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall and active ice melting.

“Indeed, collapses have occurred in two locations; however, this has not affected road traffic and the movement of vehicles in the indicated area,” stated the attaché.

The press service of the "Caucasus" road management organization also reports that 20 road workers and ten special machinery units are engaged in eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation. 18 reinforced concrete blocks have been installed to divert the water flow, and an additional 10 blocks will be installed. This will allow for shoreline reinforcement works to be carried out.

According to the hydrometeorological service, as of May 31, the water level is decreasing and has dropped by 38 cm. Specialists from the "Caucasus" road management company are monitoring the situation on-site. Traffic is being organized in a normal mode through two lanes.
