The Patriarch's Prosecutor Nephew Is Now Free: Details
The nephew of the Patriarch, Prosecutor Koryun Nersisyan, is now free. This information was provided by defense attorney Emin Khachatryan.
As previously reported, Koryun Nersisyan had been in custody since June 11, 2022. In April 2023, the Anti-Corruption Court, presided over by Judge Sarkis Dadayan, decided to change the preventive measure against Nersisyan from detention to house arrest, although the defense had requested bail.
The defense attorney filed an appeal against the decision to impose house arrest on Nersisyan, noting that bail could ensure Nersisyan's proper behavior. The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Sergey Marabyan, upheld the appeal. The court annulled and amended the decision on house arrest, applying bail as a preventive measure for Koryun Nersisyan in the amount of 10 million drams.
Nersisyan is now free.
It is recalled that in June 2022, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia reported that Koryun Nersisyan, the Deputy Prosecutor of the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan, had received a bribe of 2.5 million drams with the assistance of Gagik Galstyan and Nzhdeh Ayvazyan to facilitate a lenient sentence for the accused Nver Dilyan in a criminal case being heard in the first instance court of Armavir province.
Following a decision by the acting Prosecutor General on June 8, 2022, a criminal case was initiated into the incident, and it was referred to the Anti-Corruption Committee for preliminary investigation. According to the investigating authority, on June 10, 2022, Koryun Nersisyan was charged under Article 311, Part 4, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code for receiving a particularly large bribe. Nver Dilyan was charged under Article 312, Part 3, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code for giving a particularly large bribe, while Nzhdeh Ayvazyan and Gagik Galstyan were charged under Article 38-311, Part 4, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code for assisting in the receipt of a bribe. The case is currently under the jurisdiction of Judge Sarkis Dadayan at the Anti-Corruption Court.
