Macron Explains Why Putin Should Not Be Arrested
French President Emmanuel Macron stated today at a security conference in Slovakia that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, has awakened NATO by invading Ukraine, according to France24.
He called on the West to offer Ukraine "tangible and reliable" security guarantees as "the country fights against the Russian invasion." The French President highlighted the necessity for negotiations with Russian President Putin.
"Putin cannot be arrested if he is the only leader with whom the West must negotiate to end the war in Ukraine," he declared.
According to Macron, it is in the interests of the West for Kyiv to receive security guarantees from NATO. "That is why I support this, and it will be a topic of collective negotiations in the coming weeks to offer Ukraine tangible and reliable security guarantees," he added.
He mentioned that different NATO members can currently provide those guarantees as Ukraine awaits joining the alliance.
