The former deputy chief of staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Lieutenant General Tiran Khachatryan, was awarded the title of National Hero of Armenia on October 22, 2020, during the most intense days of the 44-day war, upon the proposal of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and by decree of former President Armen Sarkissian. However, the title was never officially handed over to the military figure.
