Discussion on Vehicle Window Tinting to be Held in Parliament

Tomorrow, we will meet with our colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to discuss the issue of vehicle window tinting. This was stated in a published announcement on the Facebook page of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security of Armenia.

"At the initiative of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly of Armenia, we will meet with our colleagues from the Ministry of Internal Affairs tomorrow to discuss the issue of vehicle window tinting," the announcement reads.

It should be noted that starting from June 1, the patrol service and road police will identify vehicles that violate the transparency standards of window tints and will subject them to administrative penalties equivalent to twenty-five times the minimum wage. According to the provisions of national legislation and the technical regulations of the Customs Union, the transparency of front side windows of vehicles must be at least 70%.

While the police informed Auroranews that all of this is regulated by the Administrative Offenses Code, lawyers argue that the requirement lacks a legal basis. Auroranews spoke with lawyers Aramazd Kiveryan and Gohar Meloyan.

"The very Administrative Offenses Code clearly stipulates that in this case, the transparency is determined by a Government decision," Kiveryan noted.
