Russia to Open Consulate in Syunik
The Russian Federation will open a consulate in the Syunik region. This was announced by Sergey Paltov, Deputy Director of the 4th Department for the Commonwealth of Independent States at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a Armenian-Russian expert roundtable in Moscow.
“During the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Putin on May 25 in Moscow, the Armenian side agreed to the opening of a Russian consulate in Syunik,” Alpha News quoted Paltov as saying.
The Russian diplomat also stated that a decision was made to avoid lengthy state procedures for the consulate's opening, which would normally take at least a year, and to proceed via a simplified pathway. Paltov emphasized that it was decided to send personnel to start working on-site as soon as possible.
“So that they can begin their work there and contribute not only to the preservation of Armenian-Russian friendship but also to the security of this strategically important region for Armenia. I hope that our visit in June will be productive,” Paltov noted.
