"It’s Absurd": Kazakhstan Responds to Lukashenko's Remarks
"It’s absurd and should not be allowed": Kazakhstan's Senate has rejected Lukashenko's idea to include the Republic in the union of Russia and Belarus for nuclear weapons.
“Belarus and Russia should be united, and that’s it, nuclear weapons will be for everyone. This is my opinion, it’s not the opinion of the Russians,” declared Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Member of the Kazakh Senate Council, Sauresh Battalova, called the union based on the proliferation of nuclear weapons absurd.
“I believe that the opinions of autocrats like Lukashenko are not the kind of opinions we should consider as a subject for discussion. The use of nuclear weapons should never be allowed. And the union based on the existence of nuclear weapons, which supposedly strengthens the country, is absurd and should not be permitted,” Battalova stated.
She emphasized that Kazakhstan must remain an independent state. “Kazakhstan is a sovereign state today. I support the preservation of that sovereignty and independence. Our strength and our unity should be built only on peaceful, mutually beneficial forms of cooperation.”
