New Details on the Car Accident in Kotayk Province: Investigative Committee

The Investigative Committee has received a report regarding a car accident on the road from Garni's Banavan to Artashat, which resulted in injuries.

It has been established that two vehicles collided on the 14th kilometer stretch of the road leading to Garni: a Volkswagen Audi 4 driven by a 42-year-old resident of Garni and a VAZ 2106 driven by a 38-year-old resident of Verin Artashat.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the VAZ 2106 died on the spot, while the six passengers of the same vehicle, including five children, as well as the other vehicle's driver, were taken to medical facilities in Yerevan with varying degrees of bodily injuries.

According to preliminary information, the two wrestling coaches were driving the children to Garni to participate in wrestling competitions.

Initial reports indicate that the condition of two of the children is extremely serious, while the others are in serious condition.

In connection with the incident, the Abovyan investigative division of the Kotayk regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings under part 2 of Article 342 of the RA Criminal Code. Forensic examinations have been appointed.

Necessary procedural and evidentiary actions are being carried out to clarify the causes of the car accident and other circumstances.

According to preliminary data, no alcohol presence has been detected in the bodies of the vehicle drivers.
