Did the Center District Mayor Beat Someone? What Does Singer Anahit Simonian Have to Do With It?

Approximately a week ago, a group beating occurred in downtown Yerevan, which law enforcement attempted to conceal. According to eyewitnesses, Center District Mayor Samvel Ghukasyan, along with his associates, assaulted two friends in the area extending from Pushkin Street to Northern Avenue. The altercation arose over a woman.

According to the newspaper ‘Hraparak,’ the incident took place not far from the Greek restaurant owned by singer Anahit Simonian, located at 38 Pushkin Street. The reason for the altercation was that the beaten men had made disrespectful remarks about Anahit Simonian. The Center District Mayor allegedly wanted to punish them, defending the singer’s honor.

In an interview with ‘Hraparak,’ Anahit Simonian stated that she was unaware of the beating that had occurred near her restaurant. “I am not aware,” said Anahit Simonian when questioned about the incident. It has been said that you were the reason for the fight and that you were insulted. “No, no. That did not happen. That day was my son’s birthday, and we went home after the celebration,” she replied. Was anyone bothering you? “No, we celebrated the birthday with the kids; nothing like that happened.”

The media found it strange that Anahit Simonian clearly guessed which day was being discussed, as we had not specified a date and did not know when the incident occurred.

The Center District Mayor did not respond to numerous calls, while the police press office reported that no incidents were recorded on Pushkin Street in the operational summaries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. They mentioned that an incident of hooliganism had occurred on Pushkin Street, leading to apprehensions last night at around 3 AM, and similar incidents had been reported a week ago, but on adjacent streets.
