More Than 7 Million AMD Embezzled from Yerevan State Medical University Budget; Head of Economic Department Arrested
Fact-finding data has been received regarding S. B., who, while serving as the head of the economic department at Yerevan State Medical University named after Mikayel Heratsi, embezzled over 7 million AMD from the university's budget between November 2022 and February 2023.
According to a statement released by the Anti-Corruption Committee, the preliminary investigation revealed that S. B., using his official powers, illegally transferred a total of 7,400,000 AMD in parts to the bank accounts of workers V. H. and A. M. from the university's construction and renovation department as salaries, with the intention of embezzlement. He then demanded that they cash out the money and hand it over to him.
V. H. and A. M., complying with S. B.'s request, fully cashed out and transferred the money to him, which he subsequently embezzled.
On May 25, 2023, S. B., V. H., and A. M. were arrested. It was noted that on May 26, S. B., head of the economic department, was charged under Article 256, Part 3, Point 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The investigator from the Anti-Corruption Committee submitted a motion to the court for the selection of detention as a measure of restraint, which was granted.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
