New Details Emerge in Attempted Murder Case in Gyumri
The Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia continues its investigation into a case of attempted murder, illegal deprivation of liberty, infliction of severe physical pain and mental suffering, and illegal acquisition and possession of firearms, which took place days ago involving a resident of Gyumri.
Previously, the Investigative Committee reported that a dispute had occurred between a 50-year-old resident of Gyumri and his 35-year-old compatriot regarding home renovation work and theft of building materials. During the confrontation, the latter, in the presence of two of his friends, aged 36 and 35, both also residents of the city, directed sexual insults at the victim, inflicted multiple blows on various parts of his body with his hands and feet, slapped him, spat on his face, threw a dog’s cage at him, ordered the dog to attack, and doused him with cold water using a pipe for 15-20 minutes. After that, with the intent to unlawfully take the victim's life, he fired a pistol, which he had illegally obtained and possessed, at the man located in the doghouse, causing a gunshot wound.
The investigation revealed that the aforementioned witnesses pulled the victim out of the doghouse and brought him close to the entrance of the house, where further inhumane and humiliating treatment occurred. During the preliminary investigation, factual data was obtained about the two witnesses who, in preliminary agreement, supported the 35-year-old man’s actions. It was established that these individuals not only witnessed the incident but also assisted in concealing the committed crime and its discovery. In other words, they secretly provided medical assistance to the victim with the intention of obstructing his criminal liability by distorting the circumstances of his injuries, after which they took him home. During this time, the 36-year-old man instructed the victim not to seek hospital help if he experienced pain, but to inform him instead.
Based on the facts obtained during the conducted procedural and investigative actions, the prosecuting authority has submitted requests to the supervising prosecutor to initiate public criminal prosecution against the 35 and 36-year-old residents of Gyumri, which has been granted. Consequently, charges have been brought against the 36-year-old man under Article 474, Part 2, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code. The court partially satisfied the request made by the prosecuting authority regarding the measure of restraint, selecting house arrest and a bail of 2 million AMD.
A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the 35-year-old man under Article 474, Part 2, Clause 1, and Article 196, Part 2, Clause 5 of the RA Criminal Code, and a decision has been made to arrest him. Efforts are underway to locate him and present him to the prosecuting authority, as stated in the announcement.
It is noteworthy that earlier charges had also been brought against the other 35-year-old man under Articles 44-155, Part 1, 335, Part 1, 192, Part 1, and 196, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. The court partially granted the request to apply the measure of restraint of arrest regarding him, choosing house arrest and bail in the amount of 10 million AMD.
