Georgia Unfazed by Moscow's Transit Sanctions, Says Georgian Airways

Georgian Airways has asserted that it is not afraid of sanctions from Georgia's Western partners. The opposition in Georgia has criticized the airline for organizing transit flights from Moscow to European countries via Tbilisi. Earlier, the U.S. State Department had warned the Georgian authorities about potential sanctions for accepting aircraft from Russia.

“The real transit hub of the region is Turkey, a NATO member country, from where 40 flights to Russia are operated daily and 70% of transit traffic occurs. Our country cannot play a significant role; our share will be less than one hundredth of a percent,” stated the press service of Georgian Airways.

If sanctions are imposed on Georgia, then Turkey, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and other countries should also be punished, the airline's management noted.

It is worth mentioning that on May 19, direct flights between Moscow and Tbilisi resumed after a four-year hiatus. Russian airlines Azimuth and Red Wings, as well as Georgian Airways, have received permission for flights.
