Elon Musk's Neuralink Company to Begin Trials for Implanting Microchips in Human Brains

The neurotechnology company Neuralink, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, has received permission to conduct clinical trials for implanting chips in the human brain, allowing for the use of computers and phones without hands.

“We are excited to announce that we have received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to begin our first clinical trial,” the company stated in a tweet.

Registration for the clinical trial is not yet open.

Neuralink was founded by Musk in July 2016 to bring together leading experts in the development of neural interfaces and the creation of robots capable of inserting an almost unlimited number of electrodes into the human brain fully automatically. In the long term, according to the entrepreneur, such neural interfaces will allow humans to become cyborgs (cybernetic organisms made up of biological and mechanical or electronic components), enabling them to withstand artificial intelligence and helping individuals learn to directly control computers using the power of their minds.
