Knowing about the presence of 1 ton of cocaine, I called the NSS myself: Mihran Poghosyan's statement

The former member of the National Assembly, Mihran Poghosyan, has issued a statement in which he noted: "On May 13 of this year, upon learning about the presence of about 1 ton of suspicious substance in a banana storage facility in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, I immediately took steps to address the situation. In particular, I called the reception of the NSS Director, and after receiving no response, I sent a voice message to the Director's mobile phone. Shortly after, Armen Abazyan called me.

During the phone conversation, I informed him that employees of a close friend's company, engaged in banana imports, had discovered a large quantity of an unknown powdery substance instead of the expected bananas in the container. I also informed him that the company's director, along with the legal team, was in front of the NSS building and wanted to file a report. I asked the NSS Chief to accept the report and expedite the matter.

In this case, violating the rights of privacy and personal protection, the NSS is taking actions against those who alerted the authorities about the incident. It is clear to everyone that people who have shown genuine civic awareness and informed the competent authorities about the presence of 1 ton of cocaine and its location could face personal security issues. Given a number of factors, I will refrain from presenting further details for now, urging the relevant authorities not to harass irrelevant individuals.

The relevant services of the Republic of Armenia are well aware of what has happened, know the facts, so I call on them to exclude the 'witch hunt' in this case and to uncover the whole truth and the real culprits.

It is worth mentioning that earlier, in addition to the significant narcotics trafficking case reported on May 17, 2023, the NSS published a new announcement stating that there has been an arrest. This person is the head of imports and procurement at 'Mrgenu' LLC, M.G.

Recall that on May 17, the NSS issued a statement that about 1 ton of cocaine had been illegally imported to Armenia from an Ecuador-based company through transit countries Panama, Italy, and Georgia by a company operating in the Republic of Armenia engaged in fruit imports.

The Prime Minister commented on the 1-ton cocaine case yesterday in the National Assembly, stating that the owner of the 1 ton of cocaine is a company known for banana imports, whose owner is a member of the 'Republican' faction and a former member of parliament wanted by law enforcement.
