If They Want to Save Artsakh, Let Them Present a Plan and Confront Nikol with the Facts - Samvel Babayan

Political consultations have started at the request of participants of the May 15 rally, and Arayik Harutyunyan had no alternative but to announce at that time that he was responding to the public's demand. This was stated by Samvel Babayan, the president of the United Homeland Party of Artsakh, in an interview with NEWS.am, regarding the potential reasons behind President Arayik Harutyunyan's recent announcement.

It should be noted that the President of Artsakh announced in his address on May 23 that he is halting the political consultations that had started days earlier, and a governing body based on the State Defense Committee model will not be created. Furthermore, the president stated that he would limit the freedom of gatherings, deeming actions by any political force or group unacceptable under the current conditions.

“The government was left on the street, and each of the political groups was pulling it in their direction. I called for a rally, demanding the opportunity to share responsibility, while the president effectively announced that he is solely responsible and can only receive advice from the sidelines. I view Arayik Harutyunyan's message in this context,” Samvel Babayan said.

Touching on his demand to be appointed as prime minister and his upcoming actions, Babayan stated that he is currently meeting with a broad spectrum of the public, and if the people accept their program, they will take steps accordingly. According to him, the authorities of Artsakh and the opposition are currently very convenient for Nikol Pashinyan since they are not making any real efforts to preserve Artsakh.

“Only slogan-level statements are being made from Artsakh, nothing has ever been done in practice. It would be different if the forces you mentioned, the parliament, and the president expressed their positions and publicized their ideas on how to exit the current situation. Otherwise, those who shout ‘Nikol is a traitor’ more often and loudly feel like saviors. If they want to save Artsakh, let them present a plan in black and white and confront that same Nikol with the facts. The Artsakh authorities and opposition are very convenient for Pashinyan, which is why he supports them all. Our political force announced yesterday that we see the prerequisites for changing the course of developments and are willing to assume our share of responsibility in this matter,” Samvel Babayan stated.
