Have Western Partners Suggested to Armenia to Remove the Russian Military Base? The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Responds

There is no agenda to push the Russian Federation out of the Republic of Armenia and the European Union, nor of the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided this response to a written inquiry from NEWS.am, referencing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement made during a press conference on May 22.

"We had asked the ministry to comment on the statement made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with the 'Tsargrad' TV channel, in which he mentioned that the United States and its Western allies are advising Armenia to remove the Russian military base and border troops, expressing their willingness to assist in ensuring Armenia's security," the ministry noted.

In response to Lavrov's statement, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that official Yerevan has not received such signals. "We do not receive or have received any signals from the West about breaking relations with Russia or pushing Russia out, and I do not think there will ever be such signals. The signals can relate to the development or course of bilateral relations, which also concerns Russia. That is, we discuss our bilateral relations with our Russian partners very transparently. And I believe that there is no ambiguous point in these discussions about our concerns regarding the situation in the region and our relations with Russia," Pashinyan stated.
