UK Relations with Azerbaijan as Important as with Armenia, Says Leo Docherty
The United Kingdom’s Minister of State for European Affairs, Leo Docherty, has stated that his country's position regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has not changed. The UK seeks to see a comprehensive peace as soon as possible.
“Once again, we reaffirm the EU and US's position in this regard. We are working to strengthen cooperation between Armenia and the UK. I am pleased to announce that a strategic dialogue has commenced, which we hope will take place in the second half of this year. It will expand the scope of our cooperation, and we hope it will be perceived positively,” said Leo Docherty.
According to the minister, relations with Azerbaijan are as important to the UK as relations with Armenia. “But we have always been clear that this ongoing conflict cannot lead to sustainable peace. We want sustainable peace, and we can only achieve that at the negotiating table. We will try to influence the parties to move towards a resolution of this issue,” he said.
