Aliyev: "The Peace Treaty Between Azerbaijan and Armenia is Inevitable"

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has expressed hope that negotiations regarding the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia will yield positive results. "We hope that the negotiations will eventually lead to lasting peace in the South Caucasus, despite the fact that Azerbaijani territories were under Armenian 'occupation' for about 30 years, and a million Azerbaijanis were displaced from their homes," stated Ilham Aliyev during a joint press conference with the President of Lithuania.

Aliyev noted that he discussed the negotiations on the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as regional issues, during talks with Nauseda. He stated that Baku is doing everything possible to normalize relations, making constructive efforts, and added that a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is inevitable and "must comply with the norms and principles of international law."

It is worth mentioning that on May 17, a serviceman sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds due to fire opened by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces towards Armenian positions in the Sotk area and died before being transported to the hospital. Furthermore, it has been 162 days since Azerbaijan has blocked the Lachin corridor.
