We are not at the point where we can impose sanctions against Russia, as the West has done: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

Turkey has special and developing relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite pressure on Ankara to help strengthen Western sanctions against Moscow. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in an interview with CNN ahead of the second round of presidential elections scheduled for next week.

“We are not at the point where we can impose sanctions against Russia, as the West has done. We are not tied to Western sanctions,” Erdoğan told CNN host Becky Anderson.

“We are a strong country and we have positive relations with Russia,” he continued. “Russia and Turkey need each other in all possible areas.”
