New York Slowly Sinking Below Water
New York is gradually sinking underwater, writes Science Alert, as reported by Iz.ru. Furthermore, it has been revealed that skyscrapers are collapsing under their own weight. American scientists believe that the city's high-rise buildings are sinking into the ground at a rate of up to two millimeters per year.
Researchers have concluded that new skyscrapers built along the shore could lead to flooding. It is noted that, for example, much of Lower Manhattan is situated only 1-2 meters above sea level. What is happening could become a major issue for a city with a population of over 8 million.
