US Does Not Oppose F-16 Fighter Jets Supply to Ukraine

The US Department of Defense does not oppose the potential supply of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by other countries, Politico reports, citing a Pentagon source.

"I don't think we're against it," the source replied when asked if the department opposes other countries transferring F-16s to Kyiv.

At the same time, the source indicated that no decision has yet been made regarding the possibility of transferring the jets by other states.

According to the publication, Pentagon officials have repeatedly questioned the necessity of such weaponry for Ukraine at this stage of the conflict, emphasizing that air defense systems, artillery, as well as mechanized and armored ground vehicles are the top priority.

In Ukraine, as the newspaper reports, citing an advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Yuriy Sak, there is hope to receive up to 50 F-16 fighter jets from the West. President Volodymyr Zelensky wishes for the issue of combat aircraft to be a focal point at the G7 summit in Japan and the NATO summit in Lithuania.
