Intersection Near Azerbaijan Consulate in Los Angeles Named 'Republic of Artsakh Square'

The Los Angeles City Council has voted to name the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Grenville Avenue in West Los Angeles as 'Republic of Artsakh Square.' This was reported by Armenpress, referencing a statement from LAist.

It is noted that this move was taken 'in honor of a war-torn region located thousands of kilometers away, which is very important for Los Angeles' large Armenian community.'

According to the office of City Council President Paul Krekorian, the intersection was chosen because the Azerbaijani consulate is located there. The publication reminds that Azerbaijan has blockaded Artsakh since December, resulting in severe shortages of food and other issues for the residents.

‘Azerbaijan’s autocrat has openly threatened genocide and called for the expulsion of all Armenians from the territories he claims, again threatening to annihilate the Armenian people in their ancient homeland. We have taken this step to affirm the solidarity of the people of Los Angeles with the people of Artsakh,’ reads Krekorian's statement.
