US to Soon Provide Significant Military Aid to Taiwan
The United States will soon provide significant additional military aid to Taiwan, announced Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. He made this statement during a hearing at the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee.
“I am pleased that the United States will soon be providing significant additional military aid to Taiwan, thanks to the appropriation authority granted to President Joe Biden by the U.S. Congress last year,” he said.
Austin did not specify which military equipment would be included in the aid package. Earlier, Tan Kefei, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, stated that the People’s Liberation Army of China is strengthening its efforts to prepare for war due to the U.S. supplying weapons to separatists in Taiwan.
Bloomberg had previously reported that the U.S. plans to transfer $500 million worth of weapons to Taiwan under an expedited procedure that is used for providing military assistance to Ukraine.
