Macron and Zelensky Discuss Strengthening Anti-Russian Sanctions

French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have announced the need to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions and ensure stricter oversight of previously imposed restrictions. This was stated in a joint declaration made by the presidents, published by the Élysée Palace following their meeting.

According to the statement, France and Ukraine agree on the necessity of increasing sanction pressure on Russia and ensuring their effective implementation. The parties also concurred on the need to prevent and deter sanctions evasion through third countries.

Macron and Zelensky also emphasized the necessity of holding accountable those who have committed war crimes during the Ukrainian conflict. They announced that a document will be introduced at the upcoming Council of Europe summit regarding the establishment of an international registry of damages inflicted on Ukraine.

Official Paris has also expressed support for Kyiv's intention to implement reforms in the country, which will allow the process of Ukraine's EU membership to begin by the end of 2023.
