Marukyan's Response to Vedant Patel's Comments
The Special Representative of Armenia for Special Assignments, Edmon Marukyan, has responded on Twitter to comments made by U.S. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel regarding the recent aggression by Azerbaijan along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Marukyan stated: “First, it was not a skirmish but another unprovoked attack by the Azerbaijani military, which is known for its conduct akin to that of the 'Islamic State'. The Armenian army has taken necessary measures to defend our sovereign territory. Second, our demand is that Azerbaijan must withdraw its occupying forces from the sovereign territory of Armenia and return to internationally recognized borders, which means the administrative boundaries that existed between the two countries during the time of the USSR's independence. Third, in 2022, Azerbaijan committed in Prague and Sochi to refrain from the use of force or the threat of the use of force.”
Recall that Patel, commenting on the recent events, stated: “This type of violence undermines the progress of Armenia and Azerbaijan towards sustainable and dignified peace. We call on the leaders of both countries to agree on the withdrawal of their forces along the border when they meet in Brussels on the 14th.”
