We Will Make Necessary Efforts to Bring Ukraine as Close to NATO as Possible, Says Lithuanian President

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the issue of Ukraine's potential membership in the alliance will be raised, stated Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda.

"This does not mean that membership decisions will be made, but steps must be taken to send a clear message to Kyiv. We will make necessary efforts to bring Ukraine as close to NATO as possible," Nausėda said.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had requested NATO to send a clear signal regarding the country's membership after the end of military conflict on its territory. The country's leader also responded to questions about the possible cessation of military assistance in the event of a failed counteroffensive.

It should be noted that the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO will be discussed at the alliance's summit, which is scheduled to take place in July 2023 in Vilnius, as announced by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
