Azerbaijanis Are Laying Mines Everywhere and Seizing Armenian Lands, Says Tatoyan

Azerbaijani soldiers are laying mines in the villages of the Syunik region, resulting in the deaths of many animals belonging to Armenian farmers. This was announced today, May 12, during a press conference by Arman Tatoyan, the head of the Tatoyan Foundation and former human rights defender, as he presented a new special report created in collaboration with the head of the Comparative Law Center, Siranush Sahakyan.

It should be noted that Azerbaijan regularly claims that Armenia continues to lay new mines and refuses to provide accurate maps of the mined areas.

"Azerbaijanis are spreading aggressive misinformation. What they are doing, they cast onto the Armenian side, creating grounds for aggression. A vivid example of this is the issue of mine placement. We talk to people and it becomes clear that Azerbaijani soldiers are laying mines almost everywhere, as animals are dying from mine explosions, and people cannot use their lands. In addition to resorting to such actions, Azerbaijani soldiers have also simply seized Armenian lands, pastures, and homes," said Tatoyan.

According to him, it becomes evident that Baku is trying to ethnically cleanse these areas in this manner.

It is worth recalling that in 2022, Ararat Mirzoyan addressed Azerbaijan's claims that the Armenian side was laying mines made in Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh. He noted that these mines found by the Azerbaijani side were not located in Nagorno-Karabakh but rather in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, occupied by Azerbaijan in 2021-22, and Azerbaijan is attempting to use them for propaganda purposes.
