Azerbaijan Escalates Situation to Gain Favorable Position in Future Negotiations: MP

Azerbaijan is currently escalating the situation in an attempt to build future negotiations from a position of strength, aiming for a more effective and favorable stance. This opinion was expressed by Armen Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly’s Civil Contract faction and the deputy chair of the Defense and Security Committee, in an interview with Hetq.

It is worth noting that on the morning of May 11, Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire using artillery and mortars towards the Armenian positions in Sotk, resulting in four injuries on the Armenian side. This morning, the Ministry of Defense again reported a ceasefire violation, indicating that the Azerbaijani side utilized UAVs, causing additional injuries to two servicemen.

“Before every round of negotiations, provocations are carried out so that, in their understanding, they can gain a more favorable position, which is, of course, unacceptable, especially before negotiations,” said Khachatryan.

According to the MP, Azerbaijan has not been able to achieve its goals. When asked about the likelihood of Azerbaijan starting a large-scale war, Khachatryan noted, “The possibility of a large-scale war always exists. Our defense agency is functioning under a very heavy workload and is also implementing significant reforms within the army.”

Khachatryan stated that currently, there is a relatively peaceful situation in Gegharkunik.
