Tbilisi Will Not Impose Sanctions Against Russia, Says Georgian Prime Minister

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has announced that Georgia will not impose unilateral sanctions against Russia. “We will not impose unilateral economic sanctions against Russia, as such a step would create significant problems for our population and businesses,” Garibashvili told reporters.

He also noted that Russian companies and citizens under sanctions would not be able to benefit from Georgian territory. “Regarding trade and the economy with Russia, it is in our interests. Everyone should understand this fact, especially our friends, if they truly are our friends and have no other intentions,” Garibashvili stated.

He questioned European partners who advise ceasing trade with Russia and not resuming flights, asking, “Why don’t you do it yourselves? Don’t stop the trade.” “Just last year, Europe provided around 300 billion to Russia,” the Prime Minister added.

Garibashvili emphasized that the Georgian people desire peace, stability, and the unification of the country.
