Shooting Near Synagogue in Tunisia Leaves Four Dead

Four people have died and six others have been injured due to a shooting that occurred last night at the Griba synagogue on the island of Djerba in Tunisia, local media reports, citing the country's Ministry of Interior.

The shooting took place near a Jewish pilgrimage site in Tunisia. According to police, a member of the national guard's naval forces shot his colleague and then proceeded to the Griba synagogue, opening fire on the security personnel present. The shooter was neutralized by return fire.

The ministry has indicated that the synagogue is blocked off and the area is being secured as investigations into the incident's causes are underway.

The annual pilgrimage to Africa's oldest synagogue regularly attracts hundreds of Jews from Europe and Israel to Djerba, a major resort located 500 kilometers from the country's capital.
