Details on the Murder of Ashot Avagyan Found Dead in a Pit in Gyumri
On May 5, around 09:00, a citizen who called the Mush Police Department reported that there was a body near one of the buildings on Isahakyan Street in Gyumri. An operational group dispatched to the scene discovered the body of 54-year-old Ashot Avagyan, lying face down in a water pit with facial injuries.
The Shirak Regional Investigative Department has initiated a criminal case on the grounds of murder, according to the RA Police. Based on operational-search activities and investigative actions carried out by officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shirak Regional Division, Mush and Kumayri police departments, it was established that on May 4, a 44-year-old man from Gyumri, who had previously been convicted, had attacked Ashot Avagyan under the influence of alcohol at his home on Gogol Street, inflicting fatal injuries to him.
Afterwards, in an attempt to conceal the traces of the crime, the body was moved and thrown into a water pit along with a 46-year-old local resident. Both the 44-year-old and the 46-year-old men have been arrested. The criminal investigation in the Shirak Regional Investigative Department is ongoing.
