VIDEO: "Yerevan to Issue Purchase Certificates to Apartment Residents" – Avinyan

The Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Stepan Machyan, presented the efforts made towards the resettlement of the 4th-grade emergency buildings on Artsakh Street during a procedural meeting. According to him, since the last visit, they have spoken individually with all residents and explained the logic, size, and other details regarding the issuance of purchase certificates for apartments.

Machyan noted that they received two types of complaints from citizens: "The first is about difficulties in acquiring an apartment related to obtaining funds after receiving money. The second, which was a more mild complaint, pertains to the logic of calculating the square meter."

The Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, suggested that they publicly address what this is about. "The calculation for one square meter is 402,000 drams. Of course, you can't buy an apartment in the center of Yerevan for this price, but surely it's possible to find apartments in the city. I believe this is quite a rational figure," Avinyan stated, adding that it is somewhat unclear to him whether the calculation of square meters is done based on recorded documentation, and if there is any paper for it.

Avinyan pointed out that they are speaking about a 4th-grade emergency building that could collapse in any potential earthquake: "We understand our responsibility to ensure the safety of these people, even though the Yerevan Municipality does not have a direct obligation. But, with this understanding of the risk, the issue of citizens' safety, we are moving towards a financial solution. Yerevan will be issuing purchase certificates to apartment residents, and I ask for appropriate attitudes towards the municipality as well, because, to put it bluntly, we can't just be in the role of the savior. There needs to be cooperation."
