Papoyan and Tunya Speak on Debate with Azerbaijanis at Ankara Summit
Members of the National Assembly's "Civil Contract" faction Babken Tunya and Gevorg Papoyan delivered targeted speeches in Ankara, which received a strong reaction from the Azerbaijanis. This information was reported by the National Assembly's Public Relations Department.
Earlier, it was announced that a delegation from Armenia had traveled to Turkey to participate in the summit of the parliamentary assembly of member countries of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
During the subsequent plenary session of the 61st assembly, the head of our delegation, Babken Tunya, and delegation member Gevorg Papoyan spoke about Azerbaijan's unlawful actions.
“I addressed the blockade of the Lachin corridor, recent events, the installation of a checkpoint, and called on Azerbaijan to respect the November 9 statement signed by them, which they, of course, reacted to vigorously,” Tunya noted regarding his speech.
Papoyan also spoke about the situation, emphasizing that Azerbaijan has besieged Artsakh and its Armenian population, leaving people facing numerous social issues. Not only is there a shortage of medicine and food, but also a risk of genocide.
“During my speech, the Azerbaijanis got heated and accused me of lying,” Papoyan stated.
Tunya also informed that they sent a request to the organization's Secretary-General, an ethnic Azerbaijani, Asaf Hajiyev, demanding that he no longer violate the principle of political neutrality.
“Using the organization's social media platforms such as Twitter, he made one-sided statements and made unacceptable comments towards Armenia, even threatening the use of force in an interview with the Turkish Anadolu,” Tunya presented.
According to him, they called for Hajiyev to not only remove those publications but also to refrain from similar actions in the future.
