I Believe a Wrong Decision Has Been Made: Pashinyan on the Installation of the 'Nemesis' Statue

If you want to know my opinion, I believe that a wrong decision has been made and the implementation of that decision has also been incorrect. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with 'Azatutyun,' referring to the installation of the 'Nemesis' statue in Armenia.

The journalist asked, 'There is new chill in Armenian-Turkish relations because of the 'Nemesis' statue. You mentioned in the National Assembly that the government took this step to avoid being called traitors. The same reasoning was used after the 44-day war. Is the government acting in the interests of the state or based on what the public will say?'

In response, Nikol Pashinyan said, 'First, let's be guided by the fact that the government did not make the decision to install the 'Nemesis' statue and one of the greatest shortcomings of democracy is that the head of the government does not control everyone. Yes, it's our team, but if you want to know my opinion, I think a wrong decision has been made, and the implementation of that decision has also been incorrect. When I want to delve deeper and understand how this became a reality, I see that it happened against an emotional backdrop and in a situation where many in Armenia considered many others to be traitors and threatened to shoot each other for treason against the wall. When we talk about the degree of stability of state institutions, it's not that we are talking about this today. It’s not that something established has collapsed. Those deep-rooted problems exist, and we need to face them.'
