Çavuşoğlu to Meet Lavrov in Moscow
Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has announced that he plans to hold discussions with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on May 10 in Moscow, during a quadrilateral summit concerning Syria. His statements have been quoted by Turkish media.
“Today, Russia confirmed the date (...) We will hold a general meeting on the morning of May 10, and in the afternoon there will be a bilateral meeting with Lavrov,” the minister stated.
Earlier this week, Çavuşoğlu mentioned that a meeting of the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Syria, and Iran is scheduled for May 10 in Moscow. On May 5, he clarified that it is still unclear who will represent Iran at the meeting, as Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian may travel to Africa with President Ebrahim Raisi. In this case, he will be replaced by another official in the negotiations held in Moscow.
In April, the defense ministers of the four countries met in Moscow. At that time, Turkey's Ministry of Defense noted that the meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, with the parties emphasizing the importance of continuing dialogue in the quadrilateral format.
