Meyri Customs Post Operates Around the Clock Without Interruptions: SRC
The State Revenue Committee (SRC) has issued a clarification regarding the issues raised on May 3 in the National Assembly concerning the sanitary conditions and functioning of the Meyri customs post. The SRC emphasizes that the Meyri customs post operates around the clock and without interruptions.
The committee highlights that in addition to customs authorities, other organizations and private companies are also active at the customs post. Therefore, the SRC cannot manage all situations concerning them and private individuals. It is noted that customs clearance services at the Meyri customs post are provided by a private company selected through an open competition.
Furthermore, the SRC informs that numerous trash bins have been installed at the customs post; however, especially during peak tourist seasons, sanitary issues periodically arise. In addition, sanitary and hygienic regulations are often not followed by citizens, which also leads to pollution of the area.
Regarding the functions carried out at the customs post, currently, passenger vehicle servicing takes about 1 hour and is conducted on an expedited basis, regardless of how many freight vehicles and their drivers are in line. The majority of documents submitted to customs authorities are retained in the information systems of the customs authorities. Nevertheless, for each border crossing, a passport and vehicle technical passport are required, which is standard international practice.
Around-the-clock banking services are also available, and a payment terminal installed at the customs post operates without interruption. It's important to note that when there is a need to pay a fine for violating traffic rules during border crossing, the driver parks the vehicle within the customs area and walks about 500 meters to the administrative building of the customs post to make the necessary payments.
To facilitate the movement of citizens, particularly foreign visitors, there are inscriptions in Armenian, Persian, and English posted in the area. Guiding arrows are also available to clarify the sequence of actions required.
Construction works for the modernization and reconstruction of the Meyri border checkpoint are set to commence in May-June 2023. Reconstruction is also planned for the Bagratashen customs post to ensure that customs infrastructure meets international standards.
