Russian Men Turning to Gender Transition to Avoid Military Service
Russian men have begun pursuing gender transition to evade military service. This was reported by Kommersant, citing a source in the State Duma.
According to the publication's source, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, numerous young individuals have turned to private clinics for gender transition to avoid being conscripted. Nina Ostanina, head of the Duma's Committee on Family, Women and Children, stated that soon changes will be made in the State Duma to prohibit gender transition without surgical intervention. She mentioned this to the newspaper.
The initiative is also supported by State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin. He noted that recently there have been 2,700 recorded cases of gender transition.
“In the morning, a person wakes up and decides that he is no longer a man but a woman. He goes to a paid clinic, where the service costs between 30,000 and 60,000 rubles, receives a certificate, and later uses this certificate to go to the registration office or passport office to change his surname, first name, and patronymic,” he elaborated.
Earlier, the Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuychenko announced that the Ministry of Justice plans to eliminate the option of changing gender in Russian passports and other official documents. According to the minister, this will be “one of the first steps towards consolidating family values in Russian legislation.”
