Extradition Not Permitted During Pre-Trial Proceedings, Prosecutor on Azerbaijani Soldiers

The Chief Prosecutor of Armenia, Anna Vardanyan, addressed the National Assembly regarding the criminal case against Azerbaijani military personnel who crossed into Armenia.

According to her, the proceedings against one of the two individuals have concluded, and the case has been sent to court, while the investigation regarding the other continues.

The prosecutor reported that the individual is accused of murder under aggravating circumstances. Additional charges include smuggling weapons, illegal border crossing, and violations related to carrying firearms in Armenia.

“At this moment, extradition is not allowed and will not be allowed during pre-trial proceedings. Extraditions occur only under legally binding court rulings for convicted individuals. Extradition is regulated by a number of conventions. If Azerbaijan is specifically concerned, I will tell you that this refers to the 1998 Moscow Convention and the Strasbourg Convention,” the prosecutor stated.
