Israeli Legislators Call for the Establishment of a 'South Azerbaijan' Republic in Iran
A group of 32 members of the Israeli parliament has submitted a request to Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling for "the broadest possible international support for the national aspirations of the people of South Azerbaijan." This information was reported by The Sofia Globe.
According to assessments by Western researchers, the number of ethnic Azerbaijanis in Iran ranges from 12 to 20 million. The media notes that since February, there has been an increase in underground movements attempting to gain independence from Iran.
In their message to the minister, the 32 lawmakers stated, "Providing wide international support for the independence movement of South Azerbaijan would deal a devastating blow to the Ayatollah regime, and undoubtedly, if a sovereign state is established in South Azerbaijan, Israel will have another ally in the region alongside the Republic of Azerbaijan. Their support would be an appropriate response to the Ayatollah regime's diversionary activities against us," the statement reads.
