Seven Armenian Citizens in Sudan to Return to Armenia
The Armenian Embassy in Egypt has announced that seven citizens of the Republic of Armenia currently in Sudan are now in Cairo. They are set to return to Armenia. This information was shared on the Facebook page of the Armenian Embassy in Egypt.
Intense battles are underway in Sudan between two armed factions for power: the de facto leader of the country, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who commands the armed forces, and his deputy, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who leads the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
These two former allies seized power following a military coup in 2021. However, disagreements emerged over the involvement of the RSF in the armed forces.
In recent days, clashes have resulted in at least 185 fatalities and left approximately 1,800 injured.
