US Pressures Armenian Authorities Over Peace Agreement, Says 'Hraparak'
There is pressure from the United States on Armenian authorities to sign the peace agreement in the shortest possible time. This information was reported by the newspaper 'Hraparak', noting that discussions within the ruling team revolve around this issue.
The newspaper emphasizes that there is talk that the parties should approve the preliminary version of the agreement by the end of May, and that the so-called draft version of the agreement was recently brought to Armenia by US Deputy Secretary of State Erika Olson, who met with Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan and then traveled to Azerbaijan.
'Details about the content of the document are not known, but there is information that it does not align with the interests of Armenia and Artsakh at all. Especially considering the statement made weeks ago by the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, that several months ago proposals were sent to Armenia and went unanswered. This indicates that those proposals are so unacceptable that even Nikol Pashinyan does not agree to them,' the newspaper writes.
It should be noted that in 2021, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared his willingness to sign a peace agreement with Armenia. In March 2022, Baku transmitted its five-point proposal regarding the normalization of relations to Yerevan. The Armenian side made corrections and sent its version. Since then, there have been several rounds of negotiations between the parties at various levels.
