Liana Gyurjyan Takes 10th Place at Weightlifting European Championships
At the ongoing Weightlifting European Championships in Yerevan, Liana Gyurjyan finished in 10th place in the 81 kg weight category with a total lift of 215 kg.
In the snatch event, Liana initially aimed for a lift of 95 kg. However, her first attempt was unsuccessful. It wasn't until her second attempt that Gyurjyan successfully lifted the requested weight overhead. Unfortunately, she could not build on this success, as she failed to lift the 99 kg barbell in her third attempt. With this result, Gyurjyan placed 9th in the snatch event. The championship title was claimed by Ukrainian lifter Irina Dehkan, who lifted 123 kg.
In the clean and jerk event, Gyurjyan had aimed for 125 kg but started with an attempt at 120 kg, which she successfully lifted overhead. Unfortunately, she was unable to lift the 126 kg in her next two attempts. Her competition concluded with a total lift of 215 kg, placing her 10th overall.
Later today, male athletes in the up to 96 kg weight category will take the stage, with Armenia represented by Davit Hovhannisyan and Ara Aghanyan.
