Garik Karapetyan Declared Weightlifting European Champion
Garik Karapetyan has been declared the weightlifting European champion. He surpassed his own record by lifting 214 kg.
He started the clean and jerk with 208 kg, which he confidently lifted. With this attempt, Karapetyan set a second record in this European championship. He became a record holder for the youth European combined lift.
For his second attempt, coach Pashik Alaverdyan ordered 214 kg. The young weightlifter completed this lift with confidence, setting both the world and European record for youth in the combined lift.
The newly crowned European champion did not approach this lift. In this exercise, Karapetyan won a small silver medal.
With a combined lift result of 387 kg, the European vice-champion was Irakli Tsxekhidze from Georgia (173+214). The bronze medalist was Tudor Bratun from Moldova with a combined lift of 374 kg (170+204).
